How to renew passport online in India

Ministry of External Affairs, government of India has introduced the facility of online passport applications to streamline all the passport related services known as Passport Seva project.

Under passport seva project, Indian Citizens can quote their passport related queries like new passports, renew,reissue, status update and so on by Passport Seva Kendras.
Here we are providing details of one of the most common query attended by Passport Seva Kendras in few years – Renewal of Passport


Procedure of applying           
  1. Visit Passport website of India http://passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/welcomeLink
  2. Under the fresh/re-issue tab download the e-form.
  3. The e-form is required to be filled and then click on validate & save button. When you click the button an XML file would be generated to be uploaded in the system later. 
  4. Then register yourself with a unique user id by clicking on 'Register Now' link under Apply section. 
  5. After login, upload the XML file which was previously generated from ‘upload e-form link’. Please note pdf format is not accepted for submitting the form. 
  6. On the "View Saved/Submitted Applications" screen click on “Pay and Schedule Appointment” for scheduling an appointment with Passport Seva Kendra.
  7. The online payment is mandatory for scheduling an appointment with Passport Seva Kendra. You can use any of these modes for making payment-
  8. SBI Bank Challan
    Internet Banking (State Bank of India (SBI) and Associate Banks Only)
    Credit/Debit Card (MasterCard and Visa) 
  9. Now, finally click on the button of “Print Application Receipt” to print the application receipt which has your application reference number or appointment number.
 Do not forget to visit Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) on the scheduled date with the original documents.

Documents List-
1.       Address Proof like aadhaar card, utility bill
2.       Original old passport with self attested Xerox of its last and first 4 pages which includes ECR/Non-ECR page and page of observation if any.
